Pablo Martinez Flamenco-jazz band

Delicate balance | Powerful touch

Pablo Martinez Flamenco-Jazz Band is a new musical project born in 2013 at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. It was in this environment where its five members met and shared their musical interests to shape the compositions of its leader, the versatile Spanish musician Pablo Martinez, a knowledgeable of the flamenco tradition.

In 2012, Pablo Martinez decided to expand his studies and pursue a master degree of jazz at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Once there, he met the musicians that nowadays form the group and with whom he decided to start this project that blends flamenco and jazz roots.

The group breathes youth and freshness from the hands of the Dutch musician Jeff Heijne, one of the emerging young talents within the flamenco guitar in the Netherlands and the saxophonist Lluc Casares, a well renowned jazzman in the Catalan music scene. The rhythm section comprises bass player Joan Comaposada and drummer Joan Terol, both from Catalonia.

They released their first album De madrugada featuring Jorge Pardo in 2016.

Pablo Martinez electric quartet

Pablo Martínez Electric Quartet is the new project of trombonist/flamenco singer Pablo Martínez. In a new set up with keys/piano, double bass/electric bass, drums and electronics, Pablo dives into the electric side of flamenco and jazz, in a mixture of live instruments together with pre-recorded tracks and samplers that give another dimension to his music. Reminiscences of electronic music, a good dose of new flamenco, a touch of jazz and tons of freshness and improvisation, make this an appealing trip through different textures that coexist in a never-seen-before way.

Line up:

  • Pablo Martínez: trombone, flamenco singing and live electronics

  • Xavi Torres: fender rhodes, keys, piano

  • Mauro Cottone: double bass, electric bass

  • Jamie Peet: drums

Pablo Martinez DUo

Pablo Martinez Duo is a journey through jazz standards, traditional flamenco singing and the "Flamenco trombone", a concept created by jazz trombone player and flamenco singer Pablo Martinez. Together with guitarist Jeff Heijne, the duo explores the roots of flamenco in its own way. With elements of jazz they create a unique flamenco-jazz crossover in an intimate line-up.
